Ottawa Wedding

Although I had to wait more than a year to realize, I can now full heartedly say that getting an inquiry email from Amar just over a year ago turned into one of the best things that happened to me in 2015. Mariel and Amar hosted both their Hindu and White Dress weddings on the same weekend in Ottawa and lucky me, I got to photograph both of them.
One the things that make multicultural weddings so exciting in my opinion is how little guests know about the other culture’s wedding celebration traditions. I love the way each wedding of that nature meshes into a true one of a kind, and the way everyone comes together to celebrate love. It is truly fascinating. Mariel and Amar’s wedding was no different. Colours, sounds, flavours, and textures all blend together to make for a unique canvas that paints the story of these two’s relationship. And it is a beautiful one.

After the ceremony, we walked around the neighbourhood Mariel grew up in and she told me all about the gentrification process its been going through. Amongst the highlights of this super fun day was our quick visit to the very Shoppers Drug Mart Mariel and Amar met at one summer. Since they both used to work there, we asked for permission to get into the locker room for some throwback portraits, and continued on to some hilarious snaps at one specific aisle. Showcasing personalities is something that is on top of our priorities every time we’re out shooting. It never felt as easy as it did with Mariel and Amar.

Shooting a wedding in Ottawa was a nice change of scene and definitely something I would love to do more. Now that I’ve made new special friends there I would not pass on an opportunity to have drinks and catch up with these two next time I’m there!
