Dallas Perot Museum Wedding
A couple of months ago I packed my stuff and flew down to Texas to photograph Pip & Alex’s Perot Museum wedding in Dallas. Being both a local and destination wedding photographer, I always prefer city weddings over resort celebrations. Now, don’t get me wrong, resort weddings are the ultimate way to immerse yourself and enjoy one’s special day, especially as a guest. I just find that cities have more verity to work with as a visual storyteller. The lines, lights, people, fashions, and most of all uncertainty of what you might run into that can turn the day into an even more incredible experience than it already is! The city of Dallas was a fresh breath of air (and warmth, coming from the cold north!).
I often talk about how one of our main priorities is to make sure we always treat every wedding differently and let it unfold organically while we observe and document. So yes, when you go through our weekly adventures there’s no color palette, theme, or anything like that. Things get dark, light, symmetrical, oblique, saturated and toned down. The only formula we work with is staying true to the personality of the specific wedding we are photographing and that is where we find consistency in what we do.
My job at Pip & Alex’s wedding was to document the day 100% candidly. I think I managed to squeeze in about 2.5 minutes of portraits and that was about it. If I had to pick one word to describe the results I’d have to choose FREEDOM. We people are funny. We feel safe in trends and moving through life in a herd mentality but sometimes there’s an opportunity to step out of that. Pip & Alex’s wedding was that kind of opportunity for me and I absolutely loved it!
Massive thanks to these two cool cats for being the chilliest couple ever. I hope y’all enjoy this post!
